LastBit Software Releases TrafMeter 6.0

Traffic monitoring and management is a very important task for computer networks based 
on the IP protocol. Generally, such problems appear when you already have Internet 
connection and want to ensure that it is used appropriately and effectively.

TrafMeter is a utility that can be easily integrated into an existing network 
infrastructure and perform transparent traffic accounting and management for users. 
The main advantage of TrafMeter is that you are able to capture every network packet 
and to view graph charts with traffic speed in real-time. This allows you to quickly 
determine the most active network users of the Internet connection.

TrafMeter implements a conception of so-called "traffic filters". The traffic filter 
consists of a set of rules which helps counting the network traffic according your 
needs. One example would be to define a rule, which will count the traffic only for 
a specific IP address and TCP port. 

The limiting capabilities of the traffic filters allow you to optionally set up a 
traffic limit (in megabytes) and a maximum speed of packets (in kilobytes per seconds) 
for any traffic filter. Moreover, TrafMeter can block network packets and act as a 
simple packet-filtering firewall.

In addition to producing XML formatted reports, you may also optionally enable 
plaintext and/or database reporting.  The most popular databases are supported (MS 
SQL Server, MS Access, MySQL, etc).

This release of TrafMeter, version 6.0, has a fully re-designed Administrative Console, 
the ability to use hostnames as a source or as a destination in the rules, support 
for the counting of FTP-data traffic, and a Stateful Inspection feature which allows 
the creation of dynamic rules for packet-filtering purposes.

TrafMeter is distributed with both a Freeware and Commercial Edition. The Freeware 
Edition allows only three traffic filters with no trial period restriction. The 
Commercial Edition allows an unlimited number of the traffic filters.
